National Certificates of Language Proficiency (YKI)
The National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) tests are official language tests for adults. The YKI tests measure functional language proficiency in everyday situations.
After completing the test, you will receive a certificate stating the level of your language proficiency. You can use the certificate when applying for a study place or a job, or if you wish to demonstrate your language skills to your employer. If you achieve at least level 3 in the test in either Swedish or Finnish, you can apply for Finnish citizenship.
You can find more information, instructions and tips on the YKI tests on the InfoFinland website. The site is available in several different language versions: Official certificate of language proficiency – InfoFinland.
The YKI tests are organised by the Finnish National Agency for Education. You will find the registration, instructions and the examination dates on the website of the Finnish National Agency for Education. The website is available in Finnish, Swedish and English: National Certificates of Language Proficiency (YKI) | Finnish National Agency for Education (oph.fi).
There are both longer and shorter YKI prep courses organised in several locations all over Finland. Use the course search to find courses that suit you: Find Swedish courses.
